Club’s accomplishments not trivial

Winfield Middle School Builders Club They’re the Fruit Loops, also known as the Winfield Middle School Builders Club trivia team, and they tested their intellectual prowess at the annual CASA Trivia Night in Winfield, Kansas.

The club was looking for a fun way to help children in need when it decided this past April to participate in Trivia Night, says Jalaine Richardson, faculty advisor and member of the Winfield Kiwanis Club, sponsor of the Builders Club.  The contest is an annual fundraiser for CASA of Cowley County, an organization that represents abused and neglected children in court and works to find safe and nurturing homes for them.

The Fruit Loops, sponsored in the event by the Kiwanis club, competed against 16 adult teams at the event, the first time youths have ever participated. “The team came up with its own name and made hats, jewelry and table decorations,” Richardson says.  “They also helped out behind the scenes, setting up tables, podiums and microphones, and providing drinks, keeping score and acting as hosts and hostesses.

For its efforts, the team garnered Best Decorated Table honors. “But most importantly,” Richardson notes, “they had fun helping raise money for children served by CASA.”
